History
DIMS is a not for profit organisation incorporated under the Northern Territory Associations ACT, on the 16 June 2017.
The Management Committee consists of all Indigenous men living in the Darwin Region. The organisation has Indigenous male staff delivering programs and services to Indigenous male clients to help improve their social and emotional well-being.
Established in 2005
The Darwin Indigenous Men's Service (DIMS) was established in 2005 as a Family Violence Prevention and Healing Program. With early support from the Darwin Aboriginal & Islander Women's Shelter (DAIWS), the service grew in response to the need for culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
Today, DIMS is an independent Aboriginal-led organisation delivering culturally safe social and emotional wellbeing, healing, and family violence prevention programs for Indigenous men in Darwin and across the Northern Territory. Through a strength-based and trauma-informed approach, DIMS works to strengthen men, families, and communities while supporting positive and lasting change.
